Located at 10 Corso Como, the Amor restaurant is the brand-new Milanese challenge of the Alajmo brothers, the internationally acclaimed chefs who already have a number of Michelin stars under their belts. The project has a very strong identity and is the work of Philippe Starck, with whom the Alajmos have worked together on four other occasions: in Paris, in Venice with Amo, at the Fondaco dei Tedeschi, and at the new Caffè Quadri, also in Venice, in St. Mark’s Square.
French designer Philippe Starck has created the iconic golden masks that adorn the walls of the restaurant, with amusing references to the Venetian tradition in order to “create the ambience of an informal eatery, open to the city. A place where food is at home”, says Massimiliano.
Paolo Castelli has developed furniture and technical systems specifically for the occasion. The main feature of the project is the ingenuous system of hoists designed by Stark, which connects the lights and the steam domes used to bake the pizzas. These domes are made of polished brass and feature a system of weights which, thanks to a luminous counterweight made of glass, is able to raise and lower the domes, moving the glass light up and down. The creation of this detail required the ability to combine design and technology, a challenge which Paolo Castelli accepted enthusiastically.
The counter is also very special too, made of Panda White marble and cementitious resin, enhanced by a backlit portion which projects an allure that is completely in line with the rest of the décor. The area behind the counter features backlit crystal shelves, while the furnishings are characterised by the warm shades of wood, with extra-thick solid wood tables with hand-carved edges and a precious touch provided by brass footrests.
The shelves and the arch that marks the passage from one area to the next are also finished off with polished brass.
